This vintage book, Health and Good Citizenship, was written by Mace Andress and W.A. Evans and published by Ginn and Co. in 1933. It served as a textbook/teacher's aide for elementary and junior high school students. The preface states that "In school, children should learn such things as how to choose and eat the right kind of foods, assume good sitting and standing postures, take care of the eyes, gain self-reliance, and to cooperate in a helpful way with their school companions, their homes, and the community in which they live." Through the study of this book, "higher health ideals" were hoped to be obtained. Some of the chapters include how food is digested, how the body protects itself, the welfare of babies, and war on insects and rats. Much of the useful information and black and white illustrations in this book can still be applied to today's way of life.
Overall, this book is in very good condition for its 80-year-old age. There may be some occasional small pencil markings on a page here and there, and the owner's name is written on the inside of the front cover. Otherwise, the pages look very nice, as does the outside of the front and back cover. Tight binding and injury-free spine. Very slight arch to entire book.
